India is currently preparing to launch two important satellites, NVS-03 and Gisat-1A. These satellites are awaiting government approval to be launched from the Sriharikota Space Center in the coming weeks. The special thing about these two satellites is that they will be used exclusively for military purposes. Preparations are also underway to launch a GSLV-Mk2 rocket with these satellites.
Such a delay comes at a time when the government has not yet announced the details of two PSLV missions. One of them was launched on May 18, 2025 and the second on January 12, 2026. However, the details of its failure have not been made public. Due to this, India’s launch program has slowed down.
Why NVS-03 and Gisat-1A are important
The NVS-03 satellite is very special. This is the next satellite in India’s second-generation NavIC navigation constellation. Gisat-1A is also an advanced geo-imaging satellite, capable of near-real-time observation from Indian soil. Most of the preparations have been completed for the two launches and preparations for the flights are also underway.
Where did the matter stand?
-This launch setback comes after a difficult year for ISRO. On January 12, PSLV-C62 failed to place its payload in orbit due to a problem in the third stage (PS3).
-This was followed by the failure of PSLV-C61 eight months ago. This was because ISRO had only reported a PS3 pressure drop.
-Union Minister Jitendra Singh recently said in Bengaluru that the failure analysis committee investigating the PSLV-C62 mission has identified the cause of the problem, but could not come to a conclusion.
