Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Iranian President Masoud Peshmerga on Monday on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Kyrgyzstan’s capital Bishkek. PM Modi’s meeting with the Iranian president came amid the US-Iran war. The meeting was the first between the two leaders in two years.
Earlier (Monday) this morning, Prime Minister Modi held bilateral talks with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The two leaders discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields including defense, economy, pharma, science and technology, culture and education. They also exchanged views on the situation in West Asia and various regional and global developments. Prime Minister Modi reiterated that India is always ready to further strengthen and advance bilateral relations with Armenia.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin this evening. He will also attend the official opening ceremony of the 6th ‘World Nomad Games’ at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov.
Before his visit to Bishkek, the Iranian President had said that Iran does not want war, but will give a strong response to any aggression. Stating that instability in the region is harmful to all countries, he stressed the need for all countries to come together to achieve economic and security goals.
He also said that this meeting is very necessary and most of the leaders of the region will be present in it. At a time when some international organizations are trying to dominate the world, this conference symbolizes an independent and impartial voice on the global stage.
