Vijay’s mother is a devotee of Sai Baba, while his father, S.A. Chandrasekhar, is a Catholic Christian. However, he supports secularism. According to Vijay’s father, his family does not have strict religious beliefs. He himself married a Hindu woman. Vijay’s first wife was also a Hindu.
