Telecom regulator TRAI has implemented new rules today to curb fake and unwanted commercial calls. Under these regulations, robocalls, automated calls, and AI-based spam detection have been brought under the regulatory ambit. If five or more numbers belonging to a spammer are identified within a 10-day period, their telecom connection may be disconnected, and they could be blacklisted for a year. Additionally, a charge of 5 paise per minute will be levied on automated calls.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued a directive to telecom companies regarding unregistered entities that make spam calls. TRAI has shared this information on its official website and via an Instagram post. TRAI has directed that telecom resources be disconnected for all these entities. This means you will now be free from spam calls. TRAI has stated that no new connections are to be issued by any telecom company during this period. TRAI has urged all telecom operators to immediately comply with this new rule and provide regular updates on the matter.
