Certain rules regarding domestic LPG consumers in the country are set to change starting October 1. Under the new system, Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) will be required to avail the benefit of the government subsidy on LPG cylinders. Consumers who fail to complete this process within the stipulated timeframe will not face a stoppage in LPG cylinder booking or delivery; however, they may be deprived of the government subsidy. Consequently, such consumers would have to purchase cylinders at the market price.
What changes from October 1? Subsidy may be discontinued:
If you do not complete biometric authentication before October 1, the indirect subsidy of ₹210 per cylinder may be stopped.
Cylinders available at market price:
Even if the subsidy is discontinued, your LPG booking or delivery will not be stopped; however, you will have to pay the full market price for refill cylinders.
Identification of fake and duplicate connections:
The new authentication system enables the identification of fake, duplicate, or ineligible LPG connections operating under multiple names. Curbing Commercial Misuse:
The initiative also aims to prevent the illegal use of subsidized LPG cylinders—intended for domestic consumption—in hotels, restaurants, or industrial sectors.
Why is this step being taken?
The primary objective of this government move is to curb the misuse of LPG subsidies. Making biometric authentication mandatory will ensure that subsidy benefits reach only genuine and eligible families. Additionally, it will facilitate the identification and cancellation of duplicate or fake gas connections. A watch will also be kept on the illegal use of subsidized domestic cylinders in commercial and industrial sectors.
Who does not need to undergo authentication?
Consumers who have already completed their biometric authentication do not need to go through the process again. According to data from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, approximately 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers across the country had completed their biometric Aadhaar authentication by September 19. Therefore, this process is crucial only for those consumers whose authentication is still pending.
How to complete the biometric authentication? There are three options available for biometric authentication for the convenience of consumers:
At the time of cylinder delivery: You can complete the biometric authentication by providing your fingerprint on the delivery person’s device when they arrive at your home with the cylinder.
At the gas agency: You can also visit your respective gas agency office to undergo Aadhaar authentication.
Via mobile app: The authentication process can also be completed from the comfort of your home using the official mobile apps of the respective oil companies, such as IndianOil ONE, HelloBPCL, or HP PAY. New number for LPG booking:

First rule: LPG cylinder bookings will be accepted only from the mobile number registered with the gas agency. Bookings cannot be made via missed call or SMS from any other number.
Second rule: Once the cylinder is booked, a 4 or 6-digit Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) will be sent to the registered mobile number. This code must be provided to the delivery person upon their arrival at your home with the cylinder. The delivery will be considered successfully completed only after the delivery person enters this code into their app.
