Omar Abdullah, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and a prominent leader of the National Conference, is in the spotlight regarding his personal life. On Saturday, he made a major announcement on social media, revealing that he has married the well-known journalist Nidhi Razdan. Sharing a photo with Nidhi on Instagram, Omar wrote, “Kal ek naya safar shuru hua”—meaning, “A new journey began yesterday.” This announcement has created a stir within political and media circles.
Divorce from his first wife:
Just three months prior to this marriage—on July 31, 2026—the Supreme Court had granted a divorce between Omar Abdullah and his former wife, Payal Abdullah. After both parties agreed to resolve all long-standing disputes through a mutual settlement, the Supreme Court granted the divorce by invoking Article 142 of the Constitution. It is worth noting that Omar Abdullah and Payal first met in 1994 while working at the renowned Oberoi Hotel in Delhi, and subsequently got married. The couple has two sons, Zahir and Zamir. However, due to differences between them, the couple had been living separately since 2009—a fact that Omar himself made public in 2011. While the matter was initially pending before the Delhi High Court, the relationship was ultimately brought to a formal legal end by the Supreme Court. A New Beginning:
Within just a few months of the conclusion of legal proceedings, Omar Abdullah has embraced journalist Nidhi Razdan as his life partner. In photos shared on social media, both appear to be very happy. Alongside his political responsibilities—having served as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir—Omar is currently the subject of much discussion regarding this new chapter in his personal life.
