A great success for Mudra Manthan. A natural gas discovery was found in Andaman. India will be a hydrocarbon hub. Oil India Limited has discovered this natural gas deposit from the ocean floor. This place is just 15 km away from the east coast of the Andaman. Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri has given this good news.
The Middle East war has created a global gas and oil crisis. LPG prices are skyrocketing. Amidst this oil crisis, incredible news has been received. A huge natural gas deposit has been discovered under the Andaman Sea. This well is located at Vijayapuram-3, about 15 km away from the east coast of the Andaman Islands. Mining has started here by IOCL. This natural gas can be used to produce PNG, CNG, and other crude oils, petrochemicals, hydrogen, etc. This is the second significant hydrocarbon discovery of the company in this area. Earlier, natural gas was found in Vijayapuram-2 in September 2025. Now the presence of hydrocarbons in a new place is giving positive signals.
Vijayapuram-3 was drilled at a depth of 355 meters. Initial investigations found signs of natural gas at a depth of more than 1900 meters. Later, continuous gas emission was observed. Which confirmed its presence. However, IOCL is optimistic that more natural gas will be found in the Andamans in the future. However, it is not yet clear whether this gas can be produced for commercial purposes. This will be known through various tests. The company is currently taking samples and checking. This will help determine the quality and energy content of the gas. Not only that, but scientists are also conducting research into the source from which this natural gas is produced.
