Pakhala Goes Global: Odisha Sets Guinness World Record with 1,174 kg. Serving!

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Pakhal has been given international recognition. Odisha Pakhal has been included in the Guinness World Records. It has created a world record by making 1,174 kg of Pakhal in a single container. Chief Minister Mohan Majhi has posted on ‘X’ regarding the Guinness record. The chief minister said that this is a proud moment for every Odia. Our food tradition has gone from local to global. He said that Pakhal has given Odisha a unique identity in Tular.

Pakhal is the identity of Odia people. Be it a village or a city, the smell of Pakhal is always unique. Odia’s main deity, Lord Jagannath, is also fond of Pakhal. Therefore, keeping in mind the demand for Pakhal, March 20 is being celebrated as World Pakhal Day. It is said that ‘Jhuri is the daytime; the mind searches for Pakhal during that time.’ Pakhal has a very old relationship with Odia life. Odias all over the world will celebrate this Pakhal Diwas. Once known as a simple food of the poor, Odia’s beloved pakhal has now left the earthy earth and graced the dining tables of five-star hotels.
