My mother, my brother, my friends, and my daughter, who was very young at that time, used to tell me, ‘Mommy, everything will be fine.'”
Alaka added, “My mother used to tell me that I have to work. I have to focus on something else. Then one day I got a call from Anu Malik that JP Dutta was making a film in which he was launching Abhishek Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor. He said, ‘We have done some beautiful songs and you have to sing.'”
Alaka had refused Anu, but Anu came to her house and sat down in a daze. He said, ‘You have to come for the recording. If you don’t come, I won’t.’ Anu took Alaka’s hand again and took her to the studio.
Talking about Alaka, she started singing on All India Radio at the age of six. She started her journey with the film “Payal Ki Jhankar” released in 1980. After that, she sang in “Lawaris”. Alaka has sung for four decades in her career, she has won 7 Filmfare Awards, two Bengali Film Journalist and two National Awards in her career.
Apart from this, Alaka also has a Guinness World Record to her name. Alaka’s name holds the world record for the most streamed artist on YouTube in 2022 with 15.3 billion streams. She had also left behind pop stars like Taylor Swift and BTS.
