During Diwali, you might have consumed plenty of sweets like those made with cashews, almonds, or dried fruits, as well as laddoos. But have you ever come across a sweet so expensive that one kilogram of it could buy you a new motorbike? In Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, one such unique sweet has become the talk of the town this Diwali. It is called ‘Festival Ashrafi’. Its price is so high that people are left astonished upon hearing it. A single piece of this sweet, weighing just 9 grams, is being sold for ₹1,111. At this rate, the cost of one kilogram of this sweet comes to approximately ₹1,23,444.
Made with almonds and saffron, this special Diwali sweet has become a major topic of discussion in Jaipur. Customers would need to spend approximately ₹1.23 lakh to purchase these sweets. Named ‘Tyohar Asharfi’, these sweets resemble gold coins. A single 9-gram piece is priced at ₹1,111. It features a layer of edible gold applied over a base of almonds, topped with a gold coating and saffron. A box containing nine such sweets is priced at ₹9,999. The most notable feature of these sweets is that they are crafted using almonds and saffron.
Resembling gold, they are priced at approximately ₹1.23 lakh per kilogram. Anjali Jain, the founder of the sweet shop, stated that these sweets were inspired by the gold coins (mohars) used in ancient times. The shop also offers ‘Tyohar Navratna’, a collection consisting of nine varieties of kaju katli (cashew-based sweets). It comes in flavors such as pistachio, saffron, rose, strawberry, mango, and matcha, blending these tastes with traditional flavors. The shop has clarified that the sweets are infused with natural colors and aromas. The inspiration behind these sweets stems from the age-old tradition of gifting gold rings—which were historically regarded as symbols of prosperity. This tradition has now been reimagined in a new style, presented as a Diwali gift.
