In Sanatan Dharma, the extra month or ‘Mala Masa’ is considered a very special, holy and important month. It is also called Purushottam Masa. This month is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the preserver of the universe. Fasting and worshipping Lord Vishnu during this month is considered very auspicious. This year, Mal Masa will be from 17 May 2026 to 15 June 2026.
This is not just an extra month, but also a special occasion for spiritual meditation and self-reflection. During this time, the Sun does not enter from one zodiac sign to another. This period is called ‘Mala Masa’. Every month, the Sun changes its zodiac sign at Sankranti, but when the Sun does not change its zodiac sign in a month, then it is called ‘Mala Masa’. Some work is prohibited in this holy month, so let us know what those works are?
Consume Tamasik Food: ‘Mala Mas’ is a holy month, so avoid consuming any Tamasik food including alcohol and non-vegetarian food. Eat only sattvic food throughout this month. Otherwise, misfortune and negativity may increase in your life.
Anger and Insult: Do not get angry or insult anyone in any way during this month. Because doing so increases negativity. Purushottama month brings good thoughts and negativity in life.
Auspicious and auspicious work: Avoid marriage, fasting, Nirband, starting new work and Mundan, festivals etc. These auspicious works will not yield good results during this month.
Do not send anyone back empty-handed: Do not send anyone back empty-handed during this month. Do not steal money from anyone. Do not indulge in fraud. This can cause you a lot of harm.
Fasting and Vrat: Do not observe any fast or perform any fast, institution or ceremony during the month of Purushottama.
Do these things, you will get merit
These things bring blessings during the month of Mula. Worship Lord Vishnu every day during this holy month. Chant the mantra ‘Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya’. Light a lamp near the Tulsi tree in the evening. Give charity to the poor.
