Europe will witness one of nature’s most spectacular celestial events. Europe will be plunged into darkness for a short time due to the total solar eclipse. In some parts of the sky, the sun will be hidden behind the moon for a little over a minute. Stars will be visible in the daytime sky. The moon’s shadow will fall on the Earth, causing temperatures to drop.
On the 12th, billions of people will have the opportunity to witness this cosmic event. A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes directly between the Earth and the sun. It completely blocks out sunlight. This event occurs when all three celestial bodies are in a straight line. This cosmic event can only occur during a new moon. Although the sun is 400 times larger than the moon and about 400 times farther from the Earth, both appear almost the same size in the sky. Due to this remarkable conjunction, the moon completely covers the sun. As the eclipse increases, only a portion of the sun is visible. Then the moon slowly swallows the sun. When completely covered, the light gradually disappears and darkness sets in. The stars become visible. Birds return to their nests and nocturnal animals become active, albeit for a short time. This period of total darkness lasts only over a narrow strip, usually about 100-200 km wide. Outside this corridor, people will see only a partial solar eclipse, where only part of the Sun will be visible.
