What is bumper load and how does it harm?

Very few of you know about bumper load. When we switch off an appliance using the remote or power button, it does not switch off completely, but runs in standby mode. Devices like TV, set-top box, computer and microwave not only receive continuous load in this mode but also consume maximum electricity. Apart from this, leaving the charger plugged in after charging is also considered a major cause of electricity wastage.

According to UPPCL, how can you save electricity?

  1. Use the main switch more – In fact, don’t just turn off the TV, computer or music system with the remote, but turn off the main switch on the wall after use.
  2. Don’t forget to unplug – Remove devices like mobile chargers, laptop chargers and microwaves from the socket immediately after use. Doing this will greatly reduce your electricity bill.
  3. Use a power strip – For multiple devices like computers, printers and monitors, consider using a power strip with an on-off switch. By turning off just one, you can completely cut off the power to all the devices.
