Chinese companies Vivo and Oppo have increased the prices of their smartphones. However, Apple has not increased the prices of iPhones. But Apple may also increase the prices of iPhones in the future. We are not saying that. In fact, during the recent Apple 2026 quarterly earnings call, the company’s CEO Tim Cook’s words suggested that Apple may increase the prices of iPhones in the future. During the call, Tim Cook warned that the rising cost of computer memory is affecting the company’s profits. This suggests that these increased costs may soon be passed on to consumers.
Computer memory price increase main reasons:
According to a Times of India report (REF.), Tim Cook spoke in detail during the earnings call about how the rising cost of computer memory is affecting the tech giant. “While the impact was minimal at the end of last year, memory costs started to increase in the March quarter, which the company also acknowledged,” he said. “However, the real pressure is now starting to set in.” “I’m going to go back to December for a moment and tell you the whole story. In the December quarter, we were minimally impacted by memory, and you can see that in our gross margin results. We had forecast a slight increase in the March quarter, and we saw an increase in memory costs in the March quarter. However, the gains from our current inventory have offset some of these costs.”
Cook said that Apple expects a significant increase in memory costs in the current June quarter. Although the company has mitigated this impact to some extent by using older inventory it already has in stock, that buffer is now running out.
Impact to be felt in June:
Tim Cook also said that “memory costs are expected to be significantly higher for the June quarter. These costs will be partially offset by carry-in inventory gains. While we cannot provide specific information after June, I can tell you that after the June quarter, we believe that memory costs will have an incremental impact on our business, and we will monitor it closely.”
