Who will Vaibhav Sooryavanshi replace in India’s T20I Team? Selection Dilemma Explained

It is said that the Indian Premier League can turn any player into a star overnight. Something similar happened with Prafulla Hinge and Shakib Hussain in IPL 2026. The latter took 4-4 wickets in their IPL debuts for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Every time, someone or the other new star comes to the fore. But Vaibhav Suryavanshi is repeatedly making waves for the second year.

Now, news is coming that the Board of Control for Cricket in India is preparing to give Vaibhav Suryavanshi an opportunity to make his international debut soon. In a short IPL career of just 12 matches, Vaibhav has scored 452 runs, including one century and 3 half-centuries. His strike rate is around 228.28. If Vaibhav gets a chance to come to the Indian team, then the big question is whose place he will play.

According to reports, BCCI may select Vaibhav Suryavanshi for the tour of Ireland. A few weeks after the end of IPL 2026, Team India will play 2 T20 matches in Ireland. Which will be played on June 26 and 28. If Vaibhav is selected for the tour of Ireland, he can become the youngest player to debut for India. He will be 15 years old now. Sachin Tendulkar made his debut for Team India at the age of 16.

Now the biggest question is, who can Vaibhav replace in Team India? If we talk about Team India, which won the 2026 T20 World Cup, then Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan did well in their top order. All three are in good form and can be seen as senior players in the Indian team for the 2028 T20 World Cup. Abhishek, Sanju, and Ishan are all set to make it to the T20I squad.

But there is a possibility that the BCCI may pick a young squad for the Ireland tour. In such a case, the senior players may be rested. If that happens, he will definitely get a chance to open for Team India, depending on the squad selection. If Vaibhav is included in the plans for the T20I World Cup 2028, it will be interesting to see who will bat with him.
