Australia Names First Female Army Chief: Lieutenant General Susan Coyle to Lead in 2026

Australia has appointed a female officer as its army chief for the first time in its 125-year history. Lieutenant General Susan Kayle will take over as the country’s army chief in July this year. She will replace Lieutenant General Simon Stewart.

Susan, 55, has been serving in the army for more than three decades. She joined the Army Reserve in 1978. After that, she obtained a degree in science from the Australian Defence Force Academy. She joined the army after graduating from the Royal Military College in 1992. She has worked in various strategic departments. She is known as an influential officer in the army for her excellent work style, leadership ability and professional skills. After taking charge as the army chief, Susan will become the world’s third female army chief.
