The political drama surrounding former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan continues to rage on between the army and the government. Imran, who went to the hospital for a medical check-up due to health reasons, has been returned to Adiala Jail under tight security. After examining his health, the medical team of Shifa International Hospital has said that it is safer to keep him in jail for now.
The examination was carried out on the orders of the Supreme Court:
Imran Khan was brought to the hospital after the strict orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The court ordered that he be taken to Shifa International Hospital for medical check-up and treatment within 2 days, keeping in mind his health condition. It was also asked to constitute a special medical board, in which Dr. Uzma and his personal doctor were also allowed to be present. Tight security arrangements were made around Imran Khan’s arrival at the hospital. He was brought to the hospital from Adiala Jail at around 1 am under tight security, where a team of six expert doctors examined him.
On the other hand, the central government had filed a review petition in the Supreme Court against the order to send Imran to a private hospital. The government had argued that the court’s order was beyond the scope of law and that he had already been treated in jail. However, the government withdrew its petition after the Supreme Court’s Registrar pointed out some errors in it. It is worth noting that 73-year-old Imran Khan has been serving his sentence in jail since 2023. After being disqualified through a no-confidence motion in April 2022, he has been facing several legal cases. Imran and his party leaders have been calling these cases ‘political vendetta’. For now, he has been returned to jail, and the political atmosphere in Pakistan is once again becoming heated.
