Biometric authentication or e-KYC has been made mandatory from October 1st to continue booking subsidized LPG cylinders. Failure to do so will result in the loss of the ₹210 subsidy provided on the cylinders.
According to the Ministry of Petroleum, measures have been taken to discontinue connections for ineligible beneficiaries and ensure that subsidies reach the intended recipients. As of September 19, 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers (89.9%) have completed their e-KYC. These consumers can book LPG refills without any hindrance. Consumers who have not yet completed their e-KYC will only be able to avail subsidized services after doing so.
LPG will still be available even if biometric authentication has not been completed. However, beneficiaries will not be eligible for the subsidy. Options such as digital channels, apps, WhatsApp, or IVRS must be used for KYC. The initial deadline for e-KYC was June 30. Subsequently, the date was extended to July 31, August 7, August 15, August 23, August 31, September 7, and finally, September 14.
