Concerns have been raised over the rising number of swine flu cases in Delhi. The national capital has reported 2,392 cases of influenza-A so far this year, of which 1,777 are H1N1 cases. The Delhi government has sounded an alert after the increase in H1N1 cases. The Health Minister will hold a high-level meeting with officials and hospital representatives on Monday afternoon to review the situation. The preparedness of hospitals, medicines and necessary medical facilities will also be discussed.
According to reports, 114 new H1N1 cases were detected in a single day on August 20. After this, the total number of H1N1 infections in Delhi this year has reached 1,777. Keeping the situation in mind, the Delhi government has issued a health advisory for the people. It has been asked to take precautions such as avoiding crowded places, covering the nose and face while coughing or sneezing and washing hands regularly.
However, according to the Health Department, there is no shortage of beds, doctors, medicines and necessary medical equipment in Delhi’s hospitals. However, the situation is being monitored regularly and hospital preparedness is being strengthened as required. In view of this increase, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda also reviewed Delhi’s H1N1 preparedness and surveillance system on Friday. Emphasis has been placed on increased surveillance, rapid detection and timely treatment.
