Flipkart Set to Enter Food Delivery Market, Challenging Zomato and Swiggy

Now you can order food on Flipkart. E-commerce giant Flipkart, which delivers smartphones, clothes and groceries to your home, has now started preparing to deliver hot food to you. Flipkart is going to bring its food delivery service to the market soon. When the competition is getting fierce in the market for 10-minute delivery, this move by Flipkart is expected to give a tough fight to Zomato and Swiggy.

CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy clarified:

In an interview with a media outlet, Flipkart Group CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy said that the company will launch its food delivery service in the next few weeks. In the initial phase, it will be started as a testing or pilot project in a few selected locations. It will be improved based on the feedback received from customers and then it will be expanded to other cities on a larger scale.

How can you use this service?

Customers can use this facility through a new dedicated app along with Flipkart’s main app. According to media reports, Flipkart’s service will be linked to the government’s ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce) network. This will give the company instant access to a large network of restaurants and delivery partners. Flipkart’s decision comes after the success of its quick-commerce service ‘Flipkart Minutes’. The company recently revealed that it has opened more than 1,000 micro-fulfillment centers in 130 cities in less than two years.

The food delivery market is currently seeing intense competition. Recently, ride-hailing app Rapido launched its own food delivery service called Only, which claims to charge zero commission from restaurants. Swiggy has also introduced a new feature called Toning for budget-friendly customers. On the other hand, according to Deepinder Goyal, founder of Zomato’s parent company Eternal, new competitors cannot survive for long on the strength of discounts alone, but real growth is possible by improving the restaurant supply chain. However, Flipkart CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy clarified that Flipkart only enters areas where it can offer something new and a better experience to the customer.
