Iran is very close to making nuclear weapons. Iran has a stockpile of uranium enriched to 60 percent. If it is increased to 90 percent, it can make a nuclear bomb. This has come to light from a recent international report. Uranium is a substance that can be used to produce nuclear energy and can also be used to make nuclear bombs. The difference is how enriched, that is, purified, the uranium is. Natural uranium is very unstable. Therefore, it has to be purified through a machine (centrifuge). This process is called uranium enrichment. Power plants that produce nuclear energy run using 3 to 5 percent uranium.
Similarly, 20 percent pure uranium is considered high-powered. But it is not possible to make weapons in this. Uranium enriched to 60 percent is considered very pure. It is said to be close to making weapons-grade weapons. Similarly, 90 percent enriched uranium is called weapons-grade. That is, it can be used to make a nuclear bomb.
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) report, Iran currently has 5 to 6 tons of enriched uranium. But it is not so enriched that it can be used to make a nuclear bomb. But Iran has enriched 120 to 130 kilograms of uranium to 60 percent. If it is enriched to 90 percent, then nuclear weapons can be made with it. About 8 to 10 nuclear bombs can be made with it. That is why the US and Israel are pressuring Iran to limit its nuclear program and control the enriched uranium it has. But Iran has refused to hand it over. Iran says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes. It is not directed against any country.
