WhatsApp, the world’s most popular messaging app, is about to bring a big and interesting feature to its users. Now you will never forget the birthdays of your friends or family members again. The Meta-owned app is going to come with an in-built ‘Birthday Reminder’ feature, which is currently being tested. After this feature comes, you will no longer have to use any calendar or third-party app to remember your friends’ birthdays.
How will this ‘Birthday Reminder’ feature work?
According to a report by WABetaInfo, a website that monitors every update of WhatsApp, a glimpse of this new feature has been seen in the WhatsApp Android beta update. A special birthday section will be given in the app, where a list of which friends’ birthdays are coming up will be displayed. When a contact’s birthday is approaching, WhatsApp will send you a reminder or notification within the app. So that you can wish them on time. So you will get the benefit of this feature only if the person in your contact list has saved their date of birth in their WhatsApp profile. As of now, WhatsApp does not ask for the date of birth from all users, but in the future it will be added as a mandatory or optional.
What is the information about privacy?
Currently, this feature is only in the development stage. It has not been made available to beta testers yet. Your birthday will not be visible to all contacts. There will be an option to hide it, no clear information has been given by the company in this regard. However, according to experts, before this feature is rolled out to all customers, Meta will definitely add privacy settings to it, where users can show or hide their birthday from others as per their wish.
