Many people are taking the help of solar panels to get rid of the increasing electricity bills day by day. But due to lack of space on the roof, not everyone can install it. Scientists have made an amazing invention to solve this problem permanently. Now, instead of the roof, electricity can be generated by installing solar panels on the windows of the house. Researchers at Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University (NTU) have developed a new type of solar cell, which is 10,000 times thinner than a human hair and completely transparent.
‘Perovskite’ window glass to get power:
This new solar panel is made from a crystalline material called ‘perovskite’. It is so thin that even if it is installed on the window glass, the outside view can be clearly seen. Installing these panels will only slightly reduce the light absorption capacity of the windows, which will allow sufficient sunlight inside the house.
Can also be used in cars and gadgets:
According to a report published in ‘ACS Energy Letters’, this technology can be used not only in house windows, but also in electric cars and wearable electronic gadgets. Electric vehicles equipped with this solar glass can charge themselves while running, which will significantly reduce the petrol/electricity costs of the driver.
Electricity will be generated even in low sunlight and normal shade. Unlike traditional silicon solar panels, it does not require direct sunlight. It can collect energy and generate electricity even when there are clouds in the sky. If it is installed in the glass windows of skyscrapers and office towers, it can generate hundreds of megawatts of electricity annually. “This new perovskite cell generates electricity by separating certain wavelengths of light. It has been patented and will be available in the market very soon,” said NTU Singapore Head of Research, Annalisa Bruno.
